Cultural Capital at Caldecote

- Successful learners
- Responsible citizens

- Effective contributors
What is Cultural Capital?
Cultural capital refers to the essential knowledge, skills, and experiences that pupils need to thrive in society and education. It includes a broad range of cultural knowledge such as language and vocabulary, familiarity with social norms, and exposure to literature, arts, and diverse traditions.
Our Approach to Cultural Capital
We recognise that pupils come to school with different backgrounds and experiences. Some may have had rich opportunities to engage with books, arts, and cultural activities at home, while others may have had fewer chances. To ensure equity and high expectations for all, our curriculum is carefully planned to:
- Build on Pupils’ Prior Knowledge: We assess what pupils already know and plan learning experiences that help them acquire new knowledge and skills, ensuring no child is left behind.
- Broaden Horizons: We provide pupils with a wide range of cultural experiences beyond their immediate environment, including visits, visitors, arts, music, and literature, to widen their understanding and interests.
- Celebrate Diversity: Our curriculum values and reflects the diverse cultural backgrounds of our pupils, fostering respect, tolerance, and appreciation for different traditions and perspectives.
- Develop Language and Vocabulary: We place a strong emphasis on enriching pupils’ vocabulary and communication skills to support their academic success and confidence in expressing themselves.
- Prepare Pupils for Life: Through our curriculum, pupils develop social and cultural knowledge that helps them understand and contribute positively to society.
