Rights Respecting Schools Ambassadors
Our RRS Ambassadors are a group of driven, bold and compassionate children from Years 2 - 6. These children care about the rights of each child and work closely with Mrs Williamson to create ways to support the children in our school by understanding and exercising their rights.
This team will ensure that children are recognised when they are seen exercising their rights through receiving Rights Respecting Awards. They will also ensure that all children will take part in charity events and will take pride in supporting the wider community through celebrated days such as Children in Need and Red Nose Day.
Our RRS Ambassadors understand the importance of community and will strive to keep good relations with the local community, participating in community events and supporting children and families within Caldecote.
What do our RRS Ambassadors do?
The Rights Respecting Ambassadors meet regularly to ensure that as a school community we are upholding the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). The convention sets out 54 articles that all children are entitled to, such as;
- Article 13 – Every child must be free to express their thoughts and opinions and to access all kinds of information, as long as it is within the law.
- Article 23 – A child with a disability has the right to live a full and decent life with dignity and independence and to play an active part in the community.
- Article 29 – Education must develop every child’s personality, talents and abilities to the full.
Within the meetings, children strengthen their understanding of these articles through discussion, tasks and activities. They also explore new initiatives and plan upcoming events. Following their meeting, the children give feedback to their class, gathering further thoughts and opinions. The RRS Ambassadors contribute to school assemblies by sharing information around UNICEF Rights of the Child and encouraging involvement in upcoming activities which allow children to experience some of the articles.

What initiatives are being led this year?
The RRS Ambassadors are currently gathering the thoughts and opinions of children and staff through an online survey. This will determine which articles we focus on developing this year. In addition to this, we will be focusing on one community-based project and one fundraising project this year!
