At Caldecote Primary School, our RE and World views curriculum helps children develop curiosity, respect and understanding of the diverse beliefs, values and traditions that shape our world. We encourage pupils to explore both religious and non-religious world views, helping them understand themselves, others and the communities in which they live. 

Our aim is for every child to be able to participate in thoughtful, informed and respectful discussions about beliefs and values, with the ability to "disagree agreeably". Through exploration, questioning and reflection, children learn to appreciate different perspectives while developing their own ideas and opinions.

Learning About Beliefs and World views

Children begin by exploring their own experiences, celebrations and communities before learning about a range of religions and non-religious world views, including:

• Christianity
• Judaism
• Islam
• Sikhism
• Hinduism
• Buddhism
• Humanism

Throughout their learning, pupils explore important questions about belonging, identity, morality, fairness, purpose and belief. 

Learning Through Enquiry

RE and World views is taught through engaging questions that encourage discussion and reflection, such as:

• Why are festivals and celebrations important?
• What does it mean to belong?
• Why do some people pray?
• How do beliefs influence people's lives?
• What are different views about how the world began?

By exploring these questions, children develop critical thinking skills, empathy and an understanding of the rich diversity within our society. 

Developing Respect and Understanding

Our curriculum encourages children to:

• Respect different beliefs, cultures and traditions.
• Challenge stereotypes and prejudice.
• Reflect on their own values and experiences.
• Understand similarities and differences between people.
• Discuss important issues with confidence and sensitivity.

These experiences help children become respectful, responsible and open-minded members of society. 

Preparing Children for Life

By the time they leave Caldecote, pupils have a broad understanding of a range of religions and world views and can discuss beliefs and values in a thoughtful and respectful way. Most importantly, they learn to appreciate diversity, value different perspectives and understand what brings people together in our communities and wider world.
