Cross Country

Following the impressive running at the recent Sport Relief event, we decided to make a late entry to the Primary Schools' Cross Country Championship.  This is a very popular annual event held at Priory Park in St. Neots.  There were 111 girls teams and 123 boys teams (some 1st, 2nd, 3rd teams) entered.  It is a 4 leg relay race with each leg being 1200 metres over undulating ground.

Our girls team was: Louise Grover & Imogen Halgarth from Year 6, and Emma Stewart & Abi Smith from Year 5.  They made a fantastic start with Imogen coming home a fantastic 3rd and Abi improving on this to come home a magnificent 2nd.  She handed over to Emma and then to Louise who both ran brilliant legs to bring the team home in 12th final place.

The boys team was: Peter Watts, Max Segrave & Aidan Gower from Year 6, and Marley Ugarte-Edwards & Benjamin Chamberlain (reserve) from Year 5.  The boys competition is very strongly contested with some schools fielding teams of elite junior runners.  All boys ran their hearts out and came home in a very creditable 34th place.  Although we didn't need to call on Benjamin as reseve, we think he actually ran further than anyone as he ran round at every stage to cheer his team mates on!

We were so proud of them - it take real guts and determination to keep on running even when the legs are hurting!  There was great support from the parents and it was a fantastic team effort all round.
